What is a Swiss-made watch?

A watch stamped ‘Swiss made’ is not defined solely by its geographical origin. It represents a heritage, a watchmaking culture that has been rooted in Switzerland for centuries.

Of course, one might think that it simply means a watch manufactured in Switzerland — but the reality is more precise. Being Swiss made means meeting strict and demanding criteria in a sector where Swiss excellence is renowned throughout the world.

The great Swiss watch brands are distinguished by their technical standards, the transmission of expertise and a constant quest for innovation. The ‘Swiss made’ label is therefore not just another label, it is a promise of authenticity, precision and mastery.

Our watches exceed the legal minimum requirements:

Designed in Valais, machined, assembled and tested in Biel, and powered in Jura, our watches exceed the minimum legal requirements. With over 90% of the total manufacturing value originating in Switzerland, each Norton Peak watch embodies authentic Swiss Made quality — beyond a legal label.

At Norton Peak, Swiss-made is not a marketing ploy: it is a promise of excellence.

We comply with the strictest Swiss regulations to offer reliable, traceable watches that embody genuine craftsmanship — consistent with our values of transparency, commitment and authenticity.

What the regulations say

Since 2017, the legal definition of the Swiss Made label has been strengthened in order to guarantee its credibility and traceability:

  • At least 60% of the total production costs must be incurred in Switzerland
  • The movement must contain at least 60% Swiss components (by value)
  • The technical development of both the movement and the watch must be carried out in Switzerland

These rules ensure that Swiss Made remains a true benchmark, and not just a marketing ploy.
